Build Your Brand Like Ted Lasso

What if your favourite on-screen leaders had to build a brand? Ted Lasso is the first TV leader we'll examine in 3 steps – what makes up his identity, why is he here or what's his mission, and how does he express his brand!

Step 1: Brand Identity

Behind every brand there is a human. Whether you’re building your own personal or professional brand, it’s important to start with who you are before you define your goals and the change you’re trying to establish.

Think about your favourite themes or topics, your main interests, your greatest skills, and your biggest values.

Step 2: Brand Mission

You may be just one human, but you have multiple missions on Earth – at a personal, at a professional and at a societal level.

For this step, I’d like for you to think about the impact you’d like to establish with your presence at home, in the workplace and in the world as a whole.

What changes happen because you’re here and as a result of your work?

Step 3: Brand Expression

This is the step most people focus on when it comes to branding, but this step only becomes important once you know who you are and why you’re here.

In order to make your brand expression more memorable and more consistent, it’s essential that you choose your brand colours, consider the emotions you’d like to use for your leadership and for connecting with others, and the tools that you’ll be using to convey your messages (e.g. jokes, visualisation, memories, metaphors).

Finally, I’d like to remind you of the colour theory based on the 7 chakras and invite you to do an internal investigation as to which chakra will be your main energetic centre as you further develop and embody your brand.

BONUS STEP: Storytelling

The last step of building your brand is defining your content pillars or niche topics that will help you structure your storytelling better – both online and offline.

Select the 4 topics and subjects that:

  • you’re most interested in learning more about

  • the topics that keep you up at night filled with questions

  • the subjects where you have the most experience in and stories about

  • the themes of your own life that make you a perfect messenger

That’s it – now that you’ve understood how to build your brand, it’s time to share who you are with the world and create some positive change with your story!
